This is the first document to be published in Melbourne Polytechnic's new Policy Register. Edition 7: Higher Education Academic Board – 3/11/2022 – Student Academic Progress (HE) Policy, updated.
Unsatisfactory Progress redefined as comprising two stages:
i. First stage - At Risk of Unsatisfactory Academic Progress
ii. Second stage - Unsatisfactory Academic Progress
At Risk of Unsatisfactory Progress during the semester has been replaced by early intervention triggers and strategies to support retention and satisfactory progress in the course. Academic progress standards and satisfactory academic progress requirements added.
Appeals following Academic Progress Review meetings changed to 10 working days. Academic Progress Review and Academic Progress Panel appeals to the Director of Higher Education is the final stage of the internal academic appeals process at Melbourne Polytechnic.
Option to seek an external review with the Victorian Ombudsman added.
Edition 6: Academic Board – 6/06/2019 – Student Academic Progress (HE) Policy, updated.
Unsatisfactory Progress redefined as comprising three stages:
i. At Risk of Unsatisfactory Progress leading to an Early Intervention meeting;
ii. Unsatisfactory Progress leading to an Academic Progress Review meeting;
iii. Continued Unsatisfactory Progress leading to an Academic Progress Panel meeting (for repeat instances).

Students required to lodge an Appeal within 20 working days from the date of notification from the Academic Progress Panel rather than from receipt of the notification.
Edition 4: Academic Board – 7/09/2017 – Student Academic Progress (HE) Policy, previously titled,
Higher Education Academic Progress Policy – P/HE/D/4/060, updated. The revised policy includes the following:
- International study load has been added.
- Expected completion time has been standardised for both full time and part time students to 10 years.
- Following the initial meeting with the Head of Program (Academic Progress Review Meeting), to discuss and implement intervention strategies, progress will be monitored across the semester and the Head of Program and the student will have a subsequent meeting to determine improvement.
- It is recommended that following discussion with Head of Program, At Risk students develop their own improvement plan and review regularly to assist with maintaining satisfactory academic performance.
- A submission demonstrating changes in circumstances and proposed action plan to improve academic performance and substantiate continued enrolment in the course has been added as a precursor to a student attending an Academic Progress Panel.
- Decision outcomes of an Academic Progress Panel have been added.
- Appeals to be lodged with the Deputy CEO to prevent any possible perceived conflict of interest.
- Grounds for Appeal added.

Alignment with new operational structure and branding. Clarification of "at risk" definition and triggers (item 7). Extension of allowable APP Meeting outcomes (item 8). Addition of appeal process (item 12).

Update details: HEAC Academic Policy Working party undertook a major review of the policy. The review included formalised Academic Progress Review Meeting (APRM) for early intervention for at risk students of unsatisfactory academic progress and the Results Review Meeting (RRM) to formalise the degree level pre-CEM meeting.
