Summary of Changes from Previous Version

The Student Excursion Policy and Procedure were last reviewed in 2015. Organisational changes were implemented across Melbourne Polytechnic in 2019. With the policy and procedures overdue for review, extensive consultation was undertaken across both academic and support areas. This provided an opportunity to explore current practices and move towards a simplified and consistent approach ensuring the safety of our students.

The Student Excursions Procedure (edition 7) reviewed and updated as follows:
• covers all students as well as Melbourne Polytechnic staff and employees of agencies and partner organisations involved in excursion activities.
• excursion approval and risk assessment requirements expanded to cover existing and new excursion activities.
• excursion planning and preparation requirements defined.
• Incident management added.
• recording and reporting on excursion activities including the entry of excursions on a centralised Student Excursion Register added.
• Definitions added.
