Summary of Changes from Previous Version

This is the first document to be published in Melbourne Polytechnic's new Policy Register. It is basically equivalent to the document that was approved and in effect at the time the migration occurred, except for the numbering system and references, which have been updated to align with the new formatting and current requirements.

Edition 7: Higher Education Academic Board – 3/11/2022 – Student Academic Progress (HE) Procedure, updated.

Unsatisfactory Progress redefined as comprising two stages:

i.    First stage - At Risk of Unsatisfactory Academic Progress 

ii.    Second stage - Unsatisfactory Academic Progress 

At Risk of Unsatisfactory Progress during the semester has been replaced by early intervention triggers and strategies to support retention and satisfactory progress in the course. Supporting your Success Briefing Session introduced to help students stay on track with studies.

A letter of Improvement introduced to acknowledge students whose performance has improved. Appeals following Academic Progress Review meetings changed to 10 working days. Academic Progress Review and Academic Progress Panel appeals to the Director of Higher Education is the final stage of the internal academic appeals process at MP Added option to seek external review with Victorian Ombudsman.

Edition 6: Academic Board – 6/06/2019 – Student Academic Progress (HE) Procedure, updated.

Classification of Unsatisfactory Progress levels and responses amended as per the policy.

Edition 5: Academic Board – 10/11/2017 – Student Academic Progress (HE) Procedure, updated.

Students required to lodge an Appeal within 20 working days from the date of notification from the Academic Progress Panel rather than from receipt of the notification. Students have 5 working days to lodge a submission prior to the Academic Progress Panel.

Edition 4: Academic Board – 7/09/2017 – Student Academic Progress (HE) Procedure, previously titled Higher Education Academic Progress Procedure – P/HE/P/4/060, revised.

This revised procedure includes identifying Students At Risk after the first assessment in the semester(Week 4).

Documenting intervention plans and meeting with At Risk students prior to census date and again at Week 8 of the semester to determine progress.

Emphasis on providing students with support as early as possible to allow them to transition to Institute life and achieve academic success.

Edition 3: Academic Board – 13/05/2016 – Higher Education Academic Progress Procedure – P/HE/P/4/060, updated. Alignment with new operational structure and branding. Alignment with revised policy PHED4060. Clarify International Office notification requirement (item 7).
