Version History

Edition 1: Frances Coppolillo, Chief Executive & Scientific Procedures Premises Licence nominee – 8/07/2022 – New Animal Ethics Policy developed to provide a framework for   ensuring the ethical, humane and responsible care and use of animals for teaching and research at Melbourne Polytechnic that is consistent with the Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes ‘the Code’ and Animal Welfare Act (2002).

The Animal Ethics Policy was reviewed for consistency against the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 (Vic). Other minor changes were made to improve consistency of language throughout the Policy.

The Policy was historically embedded into the AEC Terms of Reference and Anima Ethics Use of Animals for Scientific and Teaching Purposes Guidelines.

Melbourne Polytechnic Animal Ethics was Audited (2018) and recommendation was to draft a Policy and test a policy.  The Policy was drafted in 2019 and tested post approval.

The draft policy framework was reviewed by the AEC and noted to the Finance Audit Risk Committee (2020), an MP Board sub- committee.
